As a designer and director, published illustrator and writer, information architect and interface designer I have created work for all media and all screens. This is due in a large part to my early fine arts training that also included experimental animation and documentary filmmaking and later video and digital collaborations with dance and performance art. All of which found subsequent application in my work in special visual effects for television and film productions that in turn led to participating in pioneering breakthroughs in digital design and production techniques. My recent work includes location based digital installations and design and direction for a variety of emerging electronic media.
Presently I am adjunct faculty at the School of Visual Arts in the BFA Department of Computer Animation and Visual Effects and at Parsons the New School for Design teaching Animation in the BFA program and as an adjunct professor in the MFA program of the Deisgn and Technology Department. Teaching at these institutions has provided a unique laboratory and studio setting to put into practice the premise of the book I am writing on the relationships between the legacy of traditional art methodology and digital media creation and distribution while continuing to provide creative direction and design solutions for the media, communications and electronics industries.
In the past I have been a visiting lecturer, panelist and guest speaker at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, ITS (The International Television Society), The University of California Berkeley, The Academy of Art in San Francisco, San Francisco State University, MacWorld Expositions, The Exploratorium (SF), The Museum of Technology (San Jose), ACM SIGGRAPGH, Silicon Graphics Developers Conference, The California Governor's Conference on Technology and the Arts and at many other arts, education, media and computer industry events. Additionally, I was a founding member of the American Film Institute's Digital Media Lab and on the nomination committee for the first Interactive Media Awards.
My clients have included WIRED VENTURES, Apple Computer, Warner Bros. Records, FCB, Global Business Network, Third Age Media, ZD Studios, SoftBank and SoftBank Expos, Silicon Gaming INC, Ninth House Network, MTVi/VH1.com, Power Services of New England, Pandea Music, WildBrain, Cheskin and Masten, The Children's Television Workshop and Possible Worlds.
Recent accomplishments include co-invention of a proprietary patented technology for the storage, retrieval and exchange of personal profile data enabling consistent interpretation across multiple device, applications and data services based on a social networking model.
